Our history
A hundred and thirty years on the same corner
✦
There has been a licensed house on this corner since 1892, when the building was a coaching inn and the road outside was still mud. The front bar has kept its counter, its floor and — depending who you ask — one or two of its regulars.
We have resisted most improvements. The fires are real, the pies are made here, and the roast goes on at eleven whether or not anyone has booked.
“The kind of place that reminds you what a pub was actually for.”
